Three Lions Roar Once More

England’s FIFA World Cup dreams were shattered by a Croatian comeback in Russia over the summer. This UEFA Nations League match was seen as the rematch, this time the result was different, it was England who came from behind to beat Croatia, relegating them.

Croatia’s Andrej Kramarić opened the scoring with a beautiful moment of twisting and turning before taking the shot. His 57th minute goal meant that England needed to score two goals to take the victory and the top place of Group 4 and secure a place in the finals next year.

Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard scored just minutes after coming off the bench. It might just be the easiest goal of his career. Croatia’s goalkeeper Lovre Kalinić made a save on Kane but it bounced off him into the path of Lingard who simply just tapped it into an empty net. Moments later the midfielder made a goal line clearance at the other end to keep the Three Lions’ hopes alive.

Captain Fantastic Harry Kane missed numerous chances in the game, but made up for it with the winner. Ben Chilwell‘s precise free kick allowed Kane to get on the end of the ball to secure the victory in the 85th minute.

The goal saw the Three Lions beat and relegate their World Cup nemesis. England top Group 4, a point ahead of Spain, handing them a place at next year’s Nations League finals.

The draw for the competition’s finals will take place in Dublin, Ireland on December 3rd at 8:30am ET.
