Carolina Hurricanes v Tampa Bay Lightning

1-3

Justin Williams opened the scoring for the Hurricanes with his 300th NHL career goal. Petr Mrzaek had 27 saves on 29 shots.

Tampa Bay’s Brayden Point had a goal disallowed in the second period for offside, a second coach’s challenge in as many games for Rod Brind’Amour, both of which Carolina won.

The Hurricanes uncharacteristically fell apart on special teams, allowing two goals on the penalty kill. Ondrej Palat scored the equalizer for Tampa on the power play in the third period. His goal was followed up by a double from Point, one of which was an emptynetter.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 26 saves and Nikita Kucherov recorded his 51st assist of the season.

The result ended the Canes’ impressive four-game win streak, had Carolina been victorious they would have won five in a row for the first time since 2010.
