Buffalo Sabres v Carolina Hurricanes

3-4

This game has been the main focus all week, why? Mainly because Jeff Skinner returned to Raleigh for the first time since his trade late in the summer. Though there is another reason that hasn’t been mentioned as much, it saw the 2018 No.1 overall draft pick Rasmus Dahlin face-off against the No. 2 overall pick Andrei Svechnikov.

The game did not disappoint. It was end-to-end competitive action all night long. Three of the games goals came about a minute and half apart in the second period. Justin Williams scored at 4:30, Jason Pominville at 5:00 and Sebastian Aho at 5:42.

Jeff Skinner did find the net against his former team, scoring just before the first intermission on the power play, from Dahlin and Sam Reinhart. It was the Markham native’s 30th goal of the season.

Carolina’s Micheal Ferland scored one and assisted two for a +4 rating and his first 3pt career game. Justin Williams is also on the numbers board with a 4-game goal streak, the forward’s longest since 2012/13.

Pittsburgh Penguins v Anaheim Ducks

7-4

Jake Guentzel scored a hat trick to aid the comeback after the Pens found themselves
3-0 down.

The Ducks took a 3-0 lead after Nick Ritchie, Ryan Getzlaf and Daniel Sprong scored in the first period. The Pens then scored three to level things, before Jakob Silfverberg scored the Ducks’ fourth of the night.

John Gibson made 29 saves on 35 shots for Anaheim, who lost their 10th consecutive game. The hosts are 0-7-3 since defeating the Pens on December 17th.
