Nashville Predators v Carolina Hurricanes

3-6 

Sebastian Aho scored a hat trick to help the Carolina Hurricanes to a 6-3 victory over the Nashville Predators at PNC Arena. The Finn now has five goals in his past two games.

Saku Maenalanen, Lucas Wallmark and Justin Williams also scored. Micheal Ferland and Teuvo Teravainen each had two assists and Petr Mrzaek made 20 saves in net for the hosts, who are 7-1-0 in their last eight games.

Mrazek is 7-0-0 against Nashville and Justin Faulk now has 239 career points (77g, 162a), just one point behind Dave Babych (1985-91, Hartford Whalers) for most points by a defenseman in franchise history. Justin Williams is on a seven-game point streak (6g, 1a), a career-high.

Filip Forsberg scored twice and Colton Sissons scored his 10th goal of the season, whilst Roman Josi registered two assists for the Predators, whose seven-game point streak ended. The Preds matched their season-low in shots with just 23 and only had nine even-strength shots through two periods.

Juuse Saros relieved Pekka Rinne (15 saves) in the second period, something that the Canes have frequently forced teams into doing lately.

Anaheim Ducks v Winnipeg Jets

3-4 (OT) 

The Anaheim Ducks lost their 11th consecutive game when Bryan Little scored with just 11 seconds left in overtime, after Ben Chiarot tied the game at 3-3 at 14:05 of the third period, giving Winnipeg a 4-3 win.

Blake Wheeler and Patrik Laine also scored for the hosts, with Connor Hellebuyck making 28 saves.

Brian Gibbons, Rickard Rakell and Andrew Cogliano scored for the Ducks, who are
0-7-4 since a 3-1 win at Pittsburgh on Dec. 17. Carter Rowney had three assists and John Gibson made 30 saves.

New York Rangers v Columbus Blue Jackets

5-7 

Sergei Bobrovsky made 22 saves in his return for the Columbus Blue Jackets in their 7-5 victory over the New York Rangers. It was the goaltender’s first start since he missed Thursday’s game for what general manager Jarmo Kekalainen explained as a “failure to meet certain expectations and values.” He served as back up to Joonas Korpisalo against the Washing Capitals in their overtime win on Saturday.

Nick Foligno scored twice and Cam Atkinson and Artemi Panarin each had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets, who won their third in a row. Anthony Duclair, Lukas Sedlak and David Savard also scored for Columbus.

Mats Zuccarello scored two, with Ryan Strome, Chris Kreider and Jimmy Vessey also netting for the Rangers. Alexander Georgiev made 22 saves for New York, who are 1-6-0 in their last seven.

Florida Panthers v Vancouver Canucks

1-5 

Jacob Markstrom made 23 saves in net for the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night, to help them deliver a 5-1 thrashing of the Florida Panthers, who have lost six in a row.

Ben Hutton, Brock Boeser and Markus Granlund scored for the Canucks, with Loui Eriksson registering a goal and two assists and Jay Beagle recording one goal and one assist.

Frank Vatrano scored the visitors’ only goal of the game 5:59 into the third period. Roberto Luongo made 31 saves for Florida, who are 0-4-2 in their past six.

Tampa Bay Lightning v New York Islanders

1-5 

The Isles got off to a lightning start, scoring three goals in the first 4:43 to boost them to a 5-1 victory over Tampa Bay.

Cal Clutterbuck and Casey Cizikas both scored one and assisted another. Devon Toews scored his third of the season and Josh Bailey added his 10th of the campaign. Thomas Greiss made 28 saves.

Ryan McDonagh scored and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 23 saves for the Bolts, who lost defensemen Victor Hedman to an upper-body injury early in the second period. The defeat ended their three-game winning streak as they went 0-for-3 on the power play.

Arizona Coyotes v Calgary Flames

1-7 

Mark Giordano had two goals and an assist in his 800th NHL game to help his Calgary Flames to their fifth consecutive win, a 7-1 victory over Arizona.

Matthew Tkachuk scored twice, Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan each had a goal and an assist and Sam Bennett also scored for the Pacific Division leaders, matching a Calgary/Atlanta Flames record for fewest games to 30 wins in a season (47), which was set in 1988-89. Mike Smith made 22 saves on 23 shots.

Gaudreau has moved into second place in the NHL scoring race with 69pts (27g, 43a), 18 (8g,10a) of them have come during an eight-game point streak.

Jordan Oesterle scored the Coyotes’ only goal of the night and Adin Hill made 19 saves in net. The defeat ends their three-game winning streak.
