Bruins Sweep Canes

The Boston Bruins advanced to the Stanley Cup Final with a 4-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final at PNC Arena on Thursday.

David Pastrnak (1g, 2a) and Patrice Bergeron (2g, 1a) each had three points, Brad Marchand scored an empty netter, and Tuukka Rask made 24 saves for the Bruins, who reached the Cup final for the 20th time and the third in the past nine seasons (2011, 2013).

Tuukka Rask’s 24 saves earned him his 2nd shutout of the playoffs

The line of Marchand, Bergeron and Pastrnak has combined for 38.6% (22 of 57) of Boston’s goals in the playoffs, and Rask is 12-5 with a 1.84 goals-against average, a .942 save percentage and two shutouts in 17 playoff games.

Boston’s Zdeno Chara didn’t play because of an undisclosed injury, but was in full uniform on the ice for the presentation of the Prince of Wales Trophy. He was replaced by John Moore, who had one blocked shot in 11:48 in his fifth postseason game.

The Bruins went 7-for-15 on the power play in the series, with the Hurricanes going 1-for-14.

Curtis McElhinney made 19 saves for Carolina, who defeated the reigning champions, the Washington Capitals, in seven games in the first round before sweeping the New York Islanders in the second.

Sebastian Aho led the Hurricanes with 12pts (5g, 7a) in the playoffs, Teuvo Teravainen led with seven goals, and Jaccob Slavin led in assists with 11.

Captain Justin Williams talks to NBCSN pregame

Speaking to media after the game Hurricanes captain Justin Williams said, “We’re good enough to be in the final four, and that means we’re good enough to do it again next year and get better and learn from this. Right now, it hurts, and it will for a little while.”

Despite the way they went out the Carolina Hurricanes can be proud for proving so many people wrong. No one thought they’d even make it into the playoffs, then no one thought they’d make it past the first round, let alone to the Eastern Conference Final.

The Carolina Hurricanes thank their amazing fans with a stick salute

Boston, who have won seven consecutive games will play the winner of the Western Conference Final. The San Jose Sharks lead the St. Louis Blues 2-1.
